A constable faces the prospect of dismissal from the police service after he allegedly used his mobile telephone while driving and activated the blue lights on his police vehicle when not attending an incident. Vetting concerns have also emerged.
PC 2557 David Harvey faces a misconduct hearing that will take place at South Yorkshire Police’s premises in Churchill Way, Chapeltown. It is listed to commence at 9am on Thursday 3rd August, 2023.
The force, in a statement published on their website, says:
“It is alleged that, in July & October 2022, the officer drove a police vehicle with blue warning lights when not attending an incident
“On two occasions in July & October 2022 the officer drove a police vehicle whilst using a mobile telephone.
“It is further alleged that in December 2021 the officer made a false declaration on a South Yorkshire Police Vetting form.
“These are breaches of the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of Honesty & Integrity, Confidentiality, Discreditable Conduct, Orders & Instructions and Duties & Responsibilities.
“The matters set out above are breaches of the Standards which are so serious as to justify dismissal and therefore constitute gross misconduct”.
SYP has not named the independent, legally qualified person who will chair the three-person panel at the hearing.
Also not disclosed is the district or unit within SYP to which PC Harvey is attached or whether he remains on normal duty, restricted duty or is, in fact, suspended.
A West Yorkshire Police officer is also facing misconduct proceedings this week over alleged misuse of blue lights amongst other allegations. Read more here.
