A South Yorkshire Police website announcement could spell the end of the career of PC 3138 Austin Ainsworth.

It is alleged that, in June 2022, the officer was recorded on a Snapchat video in which he was seen and heard using a word which is racist, offensive, inappropriate and/or discriminatory.

This is a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of Discreditable Conduct and Equality & Diversity, says SYP.

They add that the matters set out above are breaches of the Standards which are so serious as to justify dismissal and therefore constitute gross misconduct.

The hearing is listed to take place on Friday 4th August, 2023 at 1pm at SYP’s Professional Standards Department HQ, Churchill Way, Chapeltown, Sheffield S35 2PY. The Legally Qualified Chair has not been named.

Members of the public (and journalists) need to pre-register to attend.

The force has not provided any details as to which district or unit PC Ainsworth is attached or whether he remains on duty, restricted duties or is presently suspended.
