At a case progression hearing in Bolton Magistrates’ Court earlier today (9th August, 2023), the district judge hearing harassment allegations against a Tameside man listed a trial for May 2nd and 3rd, 2024 at Manchester Magistrates’  Court.

There have been ten previous hearings of the case, encompassing court centres at Tameside and Wigan, as well as Manchester.

The defendant, Raja Miah, 50, of Stamford Street, Mossley pleaded not guilty at a hearing in February, 2021. He was arrested by Greater Manchester Police, in a dawn raid at his home, in July, 2021.

He said on Facebook after the hearing: “This [trial date] will take me to just under 3 years from my initial arrest! For obvious reasons, I will not be commenting on the matter any further”.

A post on his Telegram page contradicted that position almost immediately: “The good news is that we have a trial date. The not so good news is that we are still waiting on key evidence. The CPS assured the judge that a bundle had been served. Unfortunately, this bundle did not include 2 of the 4 exhibits the prosecution is relying on. Of the two exhibits that were included, the information has been cropped. It is likely that we will be going back to court before next May to once again ask the CPS for the evidence”.

The Greater Manchester Magistrates’ admin team has been asked to confirm, in the interests of open justice, that Miah is still on conditional court bail, the date of the next hearing and whether any Directions or Orders were made consequent to the hearing this week.
