A short statement issued yesterday by the Oldham Conservative Group calls for a police statement after the MP for Oldham West and Royton, Jim McMahon, had signalled his intention to stand down from the Shadow Cabinet which he has served with distinction since 2020, whilst holding the Transport and Environment portfolios.
“Jim McMahon has been flushed out of the Shadow Cabinet by Sir Keir Starmer.
“What is concerning to hear (sic) however is Sir Keir Starmer saying ‘MPs should never have to deal with abuse or violent threats, and I can appreciate how difficult this must have been for you and your family.’
“As such it is imperative that Greater Manchester Police issue a statement, particularly after the Leader of the Councils (sic) car being firebombed and no arrests or charges being made nearly two years on. Now the fresh revelations from the Leader of the opposition (sic) regarding an Oldham MP and if they are being investigated and more importantly if anyone has been charged with any criminal acts”.
The GMP press office has been approached for comment.
