In a previously unpublished video clip, under-siege MP for Oldham East, Debbie Abrahams, has unsuccessfully sought to appease the Muslim vote that, decisively, keeps her in power.

Many of whom, including prominent and highly vociferous Labour Party activists, in key wards in the Borough, are now ardently campaigning against her ahead of the next general election (read more here).

The ‘secret’ film, lasting just under one minute and not intended for public airing, includes an apology for not attending the House of Commons on Wednesday 15th November to vote on an amendment to a motion that, effectively, called for an immediate ceasefire in the Palestine-Israel war, centred on Gaza.

But crucially, Mrs Abrahams does not explain in the video why she was not in Westminster at such a crucial time.

She does, however, set out the actions she has taken to attempt to bring about a ceasefire.

This film, obtained by Neil Wilby Media via one of the aforementioned activists, does not appear on either the Twitter (X) or Facebook (Meta) accounts of Debbie Abrahams MP, nor is it visible on her official website. The last post under the ‘Latest News’ tab being dated 29th June, 2023.

It appears that none of the attendees at the meeting at which she was present felt able to stand alongside her outside The Old Town Hall, close to her constituency office, whilst the video clip was being recorded.

Within a very short time after this article was first published, Mrs Abrahams, in a statement to The Oldham Times, said: “I had a longstanding commitment to attend a charity event that evening.

“The charity event was the launch of a research fund for sport-acquired brain diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease and motor neurone disease, which Kevin Sinfield hosted.

“The video was circulated to members of Oldham Mosque Council following my meeting with them on Monday.”

Mrs Abrahams is not prepared to reveal what was discussed, or agreed, at the meeting with Mosque leaders, but what is clear is that a substantial number within the Muslim community in her constituency remain unhappy with her actions, despite a four day ceasefire in Gaza beginning today (Thursday 23rd November, 2023).
