A notorious Greater Manchester conspiracy theorist is set to make history on Friday of this week (2nd February, 2023) with what is believed to be a twelfth Magistrates’ Court appearance over a single charge

There appears to have been eleven previous hearings of harassment allegations against Raja Miah, 50, unemployed and of Stamford Street, Mossley. Friday’s hearing will take place in Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court at 9.30am in courtroom 10.

He was arrested in a dawn raid on his home by Greater Manchester Police officers on 21st July, 2021 and pleaded not guilty at a hearing in Tameside Magistrates’ Court on 3rd February, 2022.

At that same hearing, the complainant, a 41 year old lawyer from the Salford area, was granted anonymity.

There have also been case management appearances at court centres in Wigan and Bolton during what is believed to be an unprecedented journey through the criminal justice system during which Miah has remained on conditional court bail.

In a running commentary on the case, which has extended from the day of his arrest up to the present time (read more here), the defendant has asserted that a date for a two day trial has been listed for 2nd and 3rd May, 2024. The court made no mention of that in response to a press request in August, 2023.

Their spokesperson did, however, confirm that the court issued no Orders or Directions following a full day hearing in Bolton Magistrates’ Court during that same month.

That hearing was notable for the appearance in the public gallery of one of Miah’s most vocal supporters on social media: Paul Ponting, 54, widely known as The Ormskirk Vigilante (read more here), is presently on conditional police bail over stalking, harassment and assault allegations brought by the same complainant.
