A fundraiser organised by a local independent politician and community champion, Paul Halloran, and backed by the TV channel, GB News, looks set to smash its £100,000 target soon after its re-launch.

The bona-fide appeal was re-launched soon after it was discovered by GB News that the Batley Grammar School teacher, who was forced into hiding following Muslim protests outside the school and threats on his life, has not received a penny in compensation from the State since being forced to leave his job and his West Yorkshire home (read full story here).

The appeal was first put up on the GoFundMe platform shortly after the teacher went into hiding. Paul Halloran, also a rugby legend in the area, has championed his cause ever since.

In an independent review published yeterday, Dame Sara Khan, a government adviser, heavily criticised the school, the police and Kirkless Council for its treatment of the teacher.

The following text forms part of the appeal page:

*Please note this is the official fundraiser which I, Paul Halloran (Batley & Spen) have been approached and sanctioned to administer.*

Many of you will have seen the events over the past few months concerning the teacher in Batley.

This is not a platform to discuss the whys and wherefores. This page is set up to appeal to the wider public to offer your support.

Contrary to some  public statements, the teacher is not back at work and is still in hiding.

Support will be needed in numerous areas. None of us can ascertain what costs may have to be met by the teacher, be they relocation, employment, legal or a multitude of other issues. The one thing that can be guaranteed is that this man, his partner and young family are going to need all the support and financial help possible.

Fighting for your job, reputation and security is emotionally draining and time consuming. It is our responsibility to ensure that this can be done with the necessary resources.

I trust you will support this young family man, his partner and children by donating whatever you can. Thank you.

My relationship to the parties concerned is that I am a family friend.
The funds raised will be used as per below:

ALL monies raised (less any GoFundMe commissions) will be sent via me, as per the families wishes to the beneficiary.

The above will be transacted via a bank transfer.
ALL transactions will therefore have an audit and paper trial.
