A West Lancashire man was charged yesterday (30th May, 2024) with stalking with fear of violence offences under Section 4 of the Protection from Harassment Act, 1997.
Paul Ponting, 54, of Yew Tree Road, Ormskirk was arrested in March, 2023 in a two force operation involving Greater Manchester Police and Lancashire Constabulary on suspicion of stalking, harassment and assault. The latter offence became statute-barred after six months and no further action was taken.
He was bailed by police, with conditions, up to the date of being charged.
The complainant is a 41 year old lawyer from the Salford area.
Ponting will appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court at 9.30am on 21st June, 2024. He is now on court bail, with conditions, up to the date of that hearing.
He is expected to plead not guilty. The offences with which he is charged are ‘either way’ which means the trial, to be set for a later date, could take place in either Magistrates’ or Crown Court.
