Greater Manchester Police has listed an Accelerated Misconduct Hearing in respect of one of its junior officers, PC Farukh Shaghir.

It is scheduled to take place tomorrow (2nd July, 2024) at GMP HQ in Central Park, Northampton Road, Manchester and will be chaired by Chief Constable Stephen Watson.

PC 18415 Shaghir will answer allegations that his conduct amounts to a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour for Discreditable Conduct contrary to the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020 following a conviction for using threatening abusing insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provocation of violence under Section 4 the Public Order Act, 1986.

No other details have been given; for example, when the incident leading to his conviction took place, where and when he was tried, his present duty status and the district/unit with which he was deployed.

For a force and a chief constable that claims, these days, to be open and transparent, this is a seriously concerning information vacuum. The public of Greater Manchester deserve better.
