At a short hearing in Preston Crown Court last Friday (26th July, 2024), the trial of Paul Ponting, 54, of Yew Tree Road, Ormskirk was fixed for 30th June, 2025, after he pleaded not guilty to allegations of stalking with fear of violence

The trial is estimated to last two weeks and will be preceded by a case management hearing in early May, 2025.

The case was remitted to Crown Court after it was deemed too serious to be dealt with at the local Magistrates’ Court during a hearing there on 21st June, 2024.

Ponting, who was arrested in March, 2023 by Greater Manchester Police, was bailed to the court with conditions that include not to contact, or interfere with, the complainant, directly or indirectly, and not to post anything about the complainant on social media or the wider internet.

The complainant, who is not named for legal reasons, is a 41 year old female from Greater Manchester.

Comments on this article are closed: The presumption of innocence, as in every other criminal court case, applies to the defendant in this case.
