A West Yorkshire Police officer, PC Jayne Badkin, will face a misconduct hearing later this morning over an allegation that she failed a roadside breath test whilst off-duty.

The hearing is set to conclude on 8th December, 2023. Its length, four days, suggests that PC Badkin will defend the allegation, arising out of an incident in January, 2022, and be legally represented.

A notice on the WYP website sets out some of the detail:

“It is alleged that on 2nd January, 2022, whilst off duty, PC Badkin was found in the driver’s seat of a vehicle wearing a seatbelt and with the keys were in the ignition.

“The officer confirmed to the attending officers that she had taken a large amount of mixed medication and had drunk alcohol.

“A roadside breath test provided a reading of 80 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal limit for driving of 35 milligrams.”

The force offers no explanation for the delay of almost two years in bringing disciplinary proceedings to a conclusion.

No details of the composition of the misconduct hearing Panel or Legally Qualified Chair have been given.
