In a notice posted on their website, West Yorkshire Police say that a former Leeds District-based officer will face a misconduct hearing on Thursday 14th March, 2024. It will open at 10am and take place at Force HQ in Laburnum Road, Wakefield.

The force has outlined the allegations against the officer as follows:

On 5th July 2023, at Leeds Crown Court, former PC David Crossley was;

  1. Found guilty of (a) 2 counts of indecent assaulting a girl under 13 (b) 5 counts of causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity and (c) 1 count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 13;
  2. Sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment and made subject of a sexual harm prevention order of indefinite duration.

It is considered that, if proved, the allegations engage and breach the Standard of Professional Behaviour in respect of discreditable conduct and amount to gross misconduct, namely conduct so serious as to justify dismissal or a finding that he would have been dismissed had he remained in service.

PC Crossley was suspended from duty as soon as the offences were reported and the investigation launched, West Yorkshire Police has previously said. He then retired from the force.

At the time of his conviction, Detective C/Supt Nicola Bryar, of West Yorkshire Police’s Professional Standards Directorate, said:

“These were absolutely awful offences committed against child victims.

“I understand that members of the public will be horrified that these offences could be committed by a police officer and all I can say is that I and other colleagues feel exactly the same way.”

She said she could “only imagine the increased concern” the victims had when reporting offences against a police officer and added that she hoped “the action we have taken shows that we will investigate offences involving police officers and that we will take swift action to remove them from duty”.
