Within a few short hours of an exclusive Neil Wilby Media exposé of a disgraced councillor’s latest misdemeanours appearing on this website, his ‘X’ (Twitter) account has been removed from the platform.

Cllr Dave Arnott, ‘Flash’ to his friends, who represents the Royton North ward on Oldham Council, had been caught out interacting regularly with luridly depicted account holders on ‘X’ – and requesting that pornographic images or videos be sent to him privately (read the full story here).

The biography of the ‘X’ account from which those requests were made, clearly and unambiguously, indicated that it was associated with his role as a councillor.

For that reason, it is a sensible inference that his Council-supplied Samsung A30 Galaxy smartphone was in use. Or, possibly, his Microsoft Surface Pro 6.

More speculative is the proposition from one fellow councillor that Cllr Arnott may have been viewing pornography during council meetings in the periods sat playing with his phone or during short absences from the evening’s business.

Whichever way that falls, and the presumption of innocence must apply, the news of his hobby has caused outrage amongst a substantial number of fellow councillors and members of the public. Most, if not all, see his position as an elected Member untenable.

As much for the potential malware intrusions, and consequent security and data leaks, as the disrepute issue.

Neither he, nor his Oldham councillor wife, Cllr Christine Adams, has, as yet, taken up their right of reply to this morning’s article.
