IOPC’s Regional Director, Emily Barry, says: “Following careful investigation, we have now submitted an evidential report to the Crown Prosecution Service.

“It will be for the CPS to consider whether to bring any criminal charge.

“A referral to the CPS is made when an IOPC investigation indicates that a criminal offence may have been committed. It does not mean that criminal charges will necessarily follow.

“The CPS will decide whether charges should be brought, based on the test set out in the Code for Crown Prosecutors.”

In January, 2024, the IOPC sent a report to the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire, Stephen Mold (pictured above right), along with a recommendation that the Chief Constable should face a gross misconduct hearing.

Those proceedings are listed to take place in May, 2024 (read more here).

Mr Adderley remains a serving police officer, on full pay, but suspended from duty.

He is also facing a second criminal inquiry over allegations of fraud in relation to the maintenance of police vehicles whilst serving at Staffordshire Police.

A number of other allegations, the details of which have been shared with Neil Wilby Media and, taken at their face, backed by good evidence, have been put to both the Northants PCC, himself under a cloud and set to leave the post shortly, and the IOPC.

The watchdog made no reference to these matters in their statement today.

Nick Adderley denies any and all wrongdoing.
