One of the highest profile police misconduct hearings ever held is set to open tomorrow morning at the Northampton Saints rugby ground.

But, bizarrely, Northamptonshire Police has already removed the details of the hearing from its website which features its serving chief constable, Nick Adderley.

He is accused of misrepresenting his military service in the Royal Navy, his length of service, allegedly wearing a Falklands War medal he did not earn and falsely stating he was a senior Royal Navy officer. The latter concerns the transformation in rank from junior rating to Commander.

The three-day hearing was due to take place in February, 2024, but was unexpectedly postponed until 28th May (read more here).

CC Adderley has remained on full pay since last October when he was suspended by the now displaced Police and Crime Commissioner, Stephen Mold, who left his own role under a cloud. The two were known to be good friends.

Following an Independent Office for Police Conduct investigation, a file was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service for a charging decision (read more here).

In a statement last year, CC Adderley said he had always worn his own medals alongside two medals his brothers gave him to wear when one became critically ill and one moved overseas. He denies any or all wrongdoing.

A number of other ‘Walter Mitty’ style claims made by Nick Adderley are also under investigation but do not form part of the proceedings that open tomorrow.

The hearing will be held under the auspices of the Office of the Northamptonshire Police Fire and Crime Commissioner and the Legally Qualified Chair (LQC) has been named as Callum Cowx.

Reporting restrictions for the hearing have been lifted and it will now take place in public. This follows outrage at an initial decision by the LQC to hold the hearing behind closed doors.
