A Kirklees man has been jailed for more than 16 years after admitting seriously sexually assaulting a female child under the age of 13.
Sean Yip, 36, from the Holmfirth area, was sentenced to 16 years and six months in prison at a hearing at Leeds Crown Court on Monday 10th June, 2024.
Described as ‘a danger to children’ by police he had pleaded guilty to two offences of raping a child and another offence of sexual assault.
His offending was first brought to police attention on 8th January, 2024 after the force was contacted and notified that the victim had disclosed being sexually assaulted by Yip.
A full investigation was launched by specialist detectives from the Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit.
Yip was arrested on the same day, then charged and remanded in custody to appear before Leeds Magistrates Court on 10th January, 2024.
He will be required to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life following his release from prison.
DC Kayleigh Moorhouse of the Kirklees District Safeguarding Unit said: “We welcome the sentencing of YIP for awful offences against a young victim who was in no position to defend herself from him.
“He put his young victim through a dreadful ordeal and his actions demonstrate that he clearly poses a danger to children.
“I want to praise the victim’s courage in reporting what took place and that of her family in supporting the prosecution to put Yip behind bars.
“It is thankful the victim and her family have at least been spared the ordeal of a trial and we hope they can take a measure of comfort from seeing him convicted.”
