A West Yorkshire Police officer has been granted anonymity ahead of a three day hearing which is scheduled to open at 10h00 tomorrow (21st August, 2024) at Force HQ in Wakefield.

‘Officer X’ is alleged to have breached Standards of Professional Behaviour by way of Discreditable Conduct.

The force website sets out the allegation thus:

“On 13th February, 2023, whilst off duty, Officer X was subject to a vehicle stop on Key Street, Bolton by PC Graham of Greater Manchester Police

“PC Graham had, earlier in the evening, witnessed Officer X’s vehicle parked on double yellow lines, with the engine running. Inside the vehicle he noted a male driver and a female front seat passenger. PC Graham then noticed the female passenger exit the vehicle.

“PC Graham recognised the female as a known drug user from the local area.

“PC Graham spoke to the female, who confirmed she had exited Officer X’s car and that she was a ‘working girl’ and stated that, “he picked me up from Lever Street, I worked and then he dropped me back off here”.

The Legally Qualified Chair has been named by WYP as Wendy Evans, a regular in such a role.

No explanation has been provided by the force in bringing proceedings over eighteen months after the incident took place.

The length of hearing – three days – is a strong indicator that Officer X will deny the allegations and be legally represented.

WYP has not given reasons why the officer has been granted anonymity or given indication that this status will be reviewed at the conclusion of the misconduct proceedings.
