A West Yorkshire Police officer, heavily promoted for several years by his superiors, takes on his force at an employment tribunal next week over alleged mistreatment.

PC Amjad Ditta Hussain, who is known to have served in the armed response unit based at the Carr Gate complex in Wakefield, has filed a claim alleging racial and religious discrimination.

His present role is not known, but WYP, in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, confirmed that he was still a serving officer as at January, 2024. It is understood that he joined the force almost 20 years ago.

The final hearing opens at Leeds Employment Tribunal on 10th September, 2024.

The officer, who was known as Amjad Ditta for much of his service with WYP, was a particular favourite of retired, and notably woke, chief constable Dee Collins who championed him relentlessly on social media and via force’s communications team.

In December, 2019, he was charged (as Amjad Hussain) with sexual touching, along with a large group of other men accused of a range of sexual and other offences.

The officer pleaded not guilty at Bradford Crown Court shortly after the case was remitted there by local magistrates in January 2020.

Reporting restrictions in place, known as a postponement order and relating to connected criminal proceedings, mean that the outcome of that case cannot be reported. Probably, until well into 2025.

Amjad Ditta Hussain is the latest in a long line of black and minority ethnic officers to take legal action against WYP over their treatment by the force, one of the most recent and highest profile was that of another serving officer, Umer Saeed, a sergeant at the time and now promoted to inspector (read more here).
