A West Yorkshire Police (WYP) officer faces a misconduct hearing following a drugs conviction late last year.
PC 891 Mark Price is alleged to have breached the following Standards of Professional Behaviour in relation to Discreditable Conduct.
If the allegations is proven one of the available sanctions is dismissal without notice.
On 8th March 2021, a search took place of PC Price’s vehicle wherein the following items were located and seized:
- Self- sealing bag containing a quantity of brown powder;
- Black taped wrap containing a quantity of white powder;
- Quantity of pink pills;
PC Price was subsequently arrested and charged for possession of controlled drugs.
Forensic testing confirmed that the seized powder and pills were Class A and Class B controlled drugs.
On 7th October 2024, PC Price was found guilty of possession of Class A and Class B drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and received a sentence of £500 fine, £300 costs and £50 victim surcharge.
The hearing will open on 11th March 2025 at 10am at WYP Headquarters, Laburnum Road, Wakefield.
The Legally Qualified Chair has not been named, but is likely to be the chief constable, John Robins, at a hearing of this nature.
The force has, so far, provided no explanation over why an offence that was detected in March, 2021 was not finalised in court until October, 2024.
It is unclear when he was charged, if he was suspended and in which unit or district of the force in which PC Price was deployed.
All matters of substantial interest and ones that should be reported by WYP at this stage of proceedings if public confidence in the police disciplinary system is to be maintained.
