In a Facebook post on his disgraced and frequently banned Recusant Nine platform, a notorious, unemployed, Tameside-based conspiracy theorist has claimed he has been ‘suicidal’ and may soon face the loss of the roof over his head.
Outrageous and, too often, fact-free claims are the staple diet of Raja Miah (pictured above right), widely known as The Malicious Beggar or, more simply, The Beggar, as a result of fleecing a sum estimated to be around £40,000 from his diminishing band of followers: A group of mostly elderly, disabled, vulnerable, gullible, deluded axe-grinders and political malcontents whom self-style as The Rabble (or Raja’s Rabble). Some of The Rabble’s prominent members are pictured with their cult leader above.
Their core bonding is over the, so far, evidence-free proposition that Labour politicians, along with an entire police force, their safeguarding partners, senior paid council officers and journalists have all conspired to cover up child sexual abuse and exploitation in Oldham, for many years, in return for Asian block votes at local and general elections.
However, if Bradford-born Miah is suffering serious mental health issues then, of course, he should seek appropriate assistance, and counselling, as soon as possible and cease the activities that may have brought him to such a point.
But nothing in his demeanour on social media, on his weekly broadcasts from his plush Mossley apartment, or at large in the neighbouring community of Oldham suggest such problems. The likelihood is that the majority of commentators, or those affected by his routinely misconceived, threatening or alarming social media output will view this latest Miah claim as anything other than one to attract increased donations or subscriptions and a variation on the wild, unsubstantiated claims that he is the target of kidnap and murder plots.
His latest Recusant Nine post, dated 10th December, 2023, says:
“At the time I started, the Labour Party had complete control over the town. 5 years later and they are down to a majority of just 2 seats. Whilst this remarkable achievement has only been possible with the combined efforts of many people, it has left me at times suicidal as a consequence of what I have had to endure.
“I know I would not have made it this far without your support. Of course financial, through the coffees you buy me and the subscriptions and standing orders that have helped me keep a roof over my head, but more importantly through the moral support I receive and friendships that I have gained on this journey. Whatever happens, all of this I will treasure.
“Unfortunately, I have had to take the decision that unless my membership numbers significantly increase, then from the 31st January all of my content will go subscriber only via the Red Wall & the Rabble and the transmissions only available to subscribers of my YouTube channel.
“I have not taken this decision lightly. I simply cannot continue as I am. Sadly, since I took the decision to put out all of my content free to air, my membership numbers has seen a significant drop off.
Additionally, the newly elected independents MARC HINCE and MAGGIE HURLEY [Oldham councillors] have renegaded (sic) on their [alleged] agreements to the total of a minimum of £7,500.
“My savings have dried up (especially after fighting off repeated criminal cases and attempts to sue me) and it is impossible for me to secure anything resembling a normal job whilst leading this campaign.
“At this moment in time, Red Wall and the Rabble has a combined total of 170 paying subscribers. It costs from just £3 a month. This number needs to increase to a minimum of 250. We need 80 new subscribers to support me so that I can coordinate the campaign to next May’s council election. 31st January is a cut off point for me.
“I don’t want to mislead any of you. The Recusant Nine platform needs to be free to air in order to remove Labour from power in Oldham. My critics try and embarrass me by stopping me in the streets and mocking me as a beggar. I refuse to allow it to affect me. I see the situation differently, I am proud that my work is 100% community funded and because of the support I receive, I have been able to do the work I have.
He concludes by saying: “I need 80 new subscriptions to get somewhere close to keeping a roof over my head.”
There is no mention of his ‘on-off’ prospective candidacy for the next Parliamentary election in the Oldham West and Royton constituency. His last post on the ‘Raja Miah for MP’ Facebook page was on 21st November, 2023. If his mental health is as precarious as he suggests, then what is likely to be a highly attritional campaign is no place to risk exacerbating such a condition. Especially, as he is likely to lose his deposit, given the very low level of voter support so far evident.
Cllrs Hince and Hurley have been contacted regarding the claim that they have reneged on agreements to fund Recusant Nine and Raja Miah.
If Miah is correct in what he says, and, to be fair, there has to be some doubt about it, then it may become a matter for the Electoral Commission, or Greater Manchester Police under the Localism Act, as it does not appear that such an arrangement has been previously declared by either Cllr Hince or Cllr Hurley.
