A 26 year old former police constable, Rowan Horrocks, is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court today accused of rape.
South Yorkshire Police say the charges relate to a report that a woman was attacked within their operational area on 28th November 2021.
The officer was based in one of force’s response teams but the force say he was not on duty at the time of the alleged offences.
He was suspended from duties and internal misconduct proceedings are under way pending the outcome of the criminal justice process.
Superintendent Delphine Waring, Head of SYP’s Professional Standards Department, says:
“I know how understandably concerned our communities will be about this matter,”
“I’d like to give my full assurance to the public that reports of this nature against one of our officers are treated incredibly seriously by the force.
“Any officers who are found not to reflect the values and high standards of our organisation will be dealt with as swiftly and robustly as possible.”
