A prospective Parliamentary candidate has issued a statement saying his local police force is not taking an alleged ‘murder plot’ against him seriously.
Raja Miah, an unemployed conspiracy theorist based for the past twenty years in Mossley, Tameside is planning to stand as a candidate for a new, but so far unregistered, political party, which he has dubbed ‘The Oldham People’s Alliance’, in the Oldham West and Royton constituency currently represented by Jim McMahon MP.
The announcement, posted on his frequently banned Recusant Nine Facebook page, is headed thus: PUBLIC STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO VIDEO BEING CIRCULATED BY [name redacted] AND MEMBERS OF THE LABOUR PARTY AFFILIATED OBA CARTEL.
OBA is an acronym of the Oldham Bangladeshi Association, who are based at the Millennium Cultural Centre, situated in the Westwood area of Oldham (pictured above).
Labour councillor, Abdul Malik, is one of two current Directors of the Association, according to Companies House records. Cllr Ruji Surjan, whom like Cllr Malik represents the Coldhurst ward, is a former Director, having resigned in February, 2021. A third Coldhurst councillor, Abdul Jabbar, is a former Director of the Association’s management company.
Raja has long maintained, albeit without a scrap of credible evidence, that ‘Cartels’, run by organised criminals, have operated in Oldham, centred around mosques and Muslim community centres, and control the operations of the Borough Council, benefiting, either in business, influence or financially, as a result of off-line decisions made by ‘Cartel councillors’.
This Recusant Nine hyperbole is boosted by frequent and lurid tales of mobsters, gangsters, Pakistani (not Bangladeshi) goons, election fraud, drug runners, getaway drivers, armed robbers, car-jackers, gang rape and, of course, murder plots. Tailored to what is, very largely, an elderly, gullible, deluded audience of around 150 cultists, mostly retired or unemployed, whom self-style as ‘The Rabble’, and subscribe or donate to Raja Miah’s various social media channels. Surprisingly, to the tune of around £40,000 over the past 4 years or so. A substantial portion of that derived from State benefits.
The public statement pulls no punches. The name of the alleged murder plotter has been redacted for legal reasons:
“So the foot soldiers of JIM McMAHON’s Labour Party affiliated OBA Cartel have launched a campaign attempting to attack me regarding my opposition to the anti Semitic attacks on the Elbit factory in Oldham two years ago. They believe that they can portray me as pro Israeli and a supporter of the atrocities currently being committed in Gaza by distributing a 10 second snippet of one of my transmissions that I used as my defence after I exposed Oldham Council and GMP’s attempt to politically prosecute me.
“Attempts to silence me started 5 years ago with allegations that I was a ‘Gay Christian Convert’ made by a supporter of the Council leader AROOJ SHAH. This was swiftly followed by the brother of Oldham Council’s Deputy Leader publishing my home address with details of who he believed was my male partner. AROOJ SHAH’s ‘childhood friend’ IRISH IMY was then convicted in a criminal court after boasting that he had his scouts follow me home.
“[name redacted] not only continues to push the malicious allegation that I am anti Muslim, he is attempting to escalate matters further by attempting to portray me as a supporter of war crimes. He hopes to achieve his goal by sharing a small and selective extract from one of my transmissions. The 10 second snippet of a transmission, with no context of what I said before or after, is being shared across Oldham’s Muslim community and I have been contacted by friends and family concerned for my safety and wellbeing.
“[name redacted]’s latest attack continues from his previous attempts where he shared a maliciously altered GMP press release on his Westwood & Coldhurst Facebook page with my photograph to falsely make it appear I had been convicted of dangerous crimes.
“In the past, he has also repeatedly claimed I am a child sex offender. He is clearly trying to have me killed. Despite repeated reports to GMP, I believe that [name redacted] and his associates are protected from prosecution because of their political allegiances.”
Raja doesn’t explain the causal link between what is a long-running tit-for-tat Facebook campaign between two opposing political factions and a plot to murder him. Or, how he has survived so many other similar plots to harm him, over the past few years, particularly when he frequently advertises his location on specific dates and times.
The most notable of those ‘attempts on his life’ was an alleged murder conspiracy between Jim McMahon; the Oldham Council Leader at the time, Sean Fielding; and the author of this article, Neil Wilby. The police, predictably, ignored that Miah complaint, also.
In the rest of the Recusant Nine post, extending to over 2,000 words, Raja gives his views on a variety of current political topics, frequently returning to his well ridden hobby horses that most things that are wrong in Oldham, and the wider world, are the responsibility of the Labour Party and, in particular, Jim McMahon, against whom Miah admits he has run a near five year vendetta; the current Council Leader, Cllr Arooj Shah; and her trusted political aide, Imran Ali (referred to as ‘Irish Imy’). He doesn’t, however, allude to the fact that his own social media output often relies on comment or clips taken out of context to smear his opponents (or journalists).
He signs off his statement, robustly, in these terms:
“You will not stop me. You will not win. The days of you and your kind [the ‘OBA Cartel’] manipulating the people of Oldham are over. The people of my town [The Rabble] see you and your divide and rule identity politics. And despite the protection you enjoy from ANDY BURNHAM’s politically infiltrated Greater Manchester Police, we do not fear you. we do not fear any of you. #JusticeIsComing”.
When answering press requests and freedom of information applications in the past, both Oldham Council and GMP have denied the existence of ‘Cartels’ in the Borough (read more here).
24 hours after first appearing, the Recusant Nine public statement had been shared only 9 times, received just 45 reactions and a single comment, despite its bold imputation that it represents the views of Oldham residents.
