A Conservative Party councillor who has been ‘missing’ for weeks (read more here) may well re-appear at the next Full meeting of Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council, scheduled for 2nd November, 2022.
At a meeting of the Council’s Standards Committee on Thursday 20th October, 2022 it is understood, from several well placed sources, that Cllr Robert Barnes agreed to resolve complaints against him over his disgraceful behaviour at an Extraordinary Meeting in June, 2022 by making a public apology in the civic chamber.
It is also understood that Cllr Barnes, first elected to the Council in controversial circumstances at the local elections in May, 2022 (read more here), has had the Tory Whip removed during his unexplained absence.
Neither the Oldham Conservatives, riven with internal strife, nor their running mates in the Council chamber, the perennially troubled Failsworth Independent Party, have responded to repeated welfare enquiries about their councillor colleague.
