Following an enquiry about an arrest made in Tameside on Thursday 9th February, 2023, Greater Manchester Police has confirmed a short time ago that “a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of malicious communications and has since been released on conditional bail. Enquiries are ongoing”.

Raja Miah, 49, unemployed and whose address has been given previously by GMP as Stamford Street, Mossley, is that suspect. He is pictured above right wearing what one of his supporters, David Buckley, who forms part of a group whom self-style as The Rabble (or Raja’s Rabble), describes as ‘police issue clothing’.

A local eyewitness had noticed police activity early yesterday morning at the apartment block in the upmarket commuter village where he lives and assumed, given Miah’s history, that he was the subject of their attention.

Miah confirmed as much in a YouTube speech, recorded by an associate in Oldham town centre, later the same day. Miah also said he couldn’t discuss the reason for his arrest, but did announce to the dozen or so members of The Rabble present that he was standing for election as a Member of Parliament next year.

He denies the allegations against him, claiming his arrest was ‘political’ and part  of a police and council ‘cover up’ of child sexual exploitation in Oldham. An old Miah chestnut that has proved completely without any evidential foundation (read more here).

In an article published on Neil Wilby Media, two days before his arrest, it was exclusively revealed that multiple reports had been made to GMP over a ‘rape fantasy’ post on the Recusant Nine Facebook page that Miah operates (read full article here). A source close to the investigation has revealed that the arrest yesterday morning was, in part at least, in connection with that Facebook post.

It is also understood that a PACE section 32 search of Miah’s home was conducted after his arrest and a number of items seized.

Apart from the conditional bail, which is set for an initial period of three months, he remains on court bail over charges of harassing a 40 year old lawyer from the Salford area. A pre-trial hearing is listed for 9th August, 2023 at Bolton Crown Court (read more here).

More to follow.
